Who we help · Refurbishment Projects

Build performance in while the walls are open.

A major refurbishment is the one chance to fix heat loss, damp risk, air leakage and noise cheaply — while the structure is exposed. We diagnose and design those improvements in, before they are plastered over for another generation.

Why it matters

Renovations, extensions and conversions open up walls, floors and roofs that will not be touched again for decades. Without a building-performance eye on the project, that opportunity is lost: cold junctions get sealed up, air-leakage paths get hidden behind new finishes, and ventilation is forgotten until the first winter brings condensation. We work alongside your builder or architect to capture the diagnostic picture early and specify the airtightness, insulation, thermal-bridge and acoustic details that should go in while access is free.

The challenges we solve

  • Extensions and conversions creating new cold junctions and thermal bridges at the interface with the existing building.
  • Air-leakage paths sealed behind new plasterboard with no air-barrier strategy.
  • New, tighter fabric without a matching ventilation upgrade — leading to condensation.
  • Single-skin rear additions and flat roofs insulated to the wrong detail.
  • Acoustic separation in conversions ignored until Part E testing fails.

How RetrofitIQ supports you

Pre-works diagnostic survey

Thermal imaging, moisture and airtightness assessment of the existing fabric so improvements are designed in from the start.

Air-barrier & junction strategy

A continuous airtightness and thermal-bridge-free detailing plan for the works while access is open.

Ventilation & acoustic input

Right-sized ventilation and, in conversions, Part E-aware acoustic build-ups specified at the right stage.

Completion verification

Blower-door testing and thermal imaging at the end to confirm the upgrades perform.

What you receive
  • Pre-works diagnostic report with thermal and moisture findings
  • Air-barrier, insulation and thermal-bridge detailing strategy
  • Ventilation and (where relevant) acoustic recommendations
  • Coordination notes for the build sequence
  • Verified completion performance data

Common questions

When should you get involved in a refurbishment?

As early as possible — ideally before the walls, floors and roof are closed up. That is when airtightness, insulation continuity and thermal-bridge details can be built in cheaply.

Can you coordinate with our builder?

Yes. We provide the diagnostic picture and the detailing strategy, and we sequence it with your builder or architect so the air barrier and ventilation are actually continuous.

Is it worth it on a smaller renovation?

Often, yes. Even a single room opened up is a chance to fix a cold wall, a leaky floor perimeter or a noise path for a fraction of what it costs later.

Investigate Diagnose Design Remediate Verify

RetrofitIQ is not only a diagnostics company. We take projects from first investigation through to verified improvement — and you decide how far we go. Engage us for an investigation on its own, an investigation plus targeted remedial works, or a complete building-performance and retrofit project.

Verify
Option 1
Investigation only

A measured diagnosis — thermal imaging, blower door testing, moisture and building-physics analysis — with a clear, costed report you can act on however you choose.

Option 2
Investigation + remedial works

We investigate, then carry out targeted remedial works — airtightness, insulation, ventilation or thermal-bridge corrections — and verify the result.

Option 3
Complete retrofit project

A full fabric-first, Passive House-informed retrofit from diagnosis through design, installation and verification — one accountable team, one point of responsibility.

Remediation & retrofit works we can carry out
  • Airtightness improvements & draught-proofing
  • Internal wall insulation (IWI)
  • External wall insulation (EWI)
  • Loft & roof insulation
  • Suspended floor & underfloor insulation
  • Thermal-bridge detailing & correction
  • Extract ventilation & MVHR installation
  • Soundproofing & acoustic upgrades
  • General building-fabric improvements
